Normally before Chinese New Year, people would like to collect red packets from difference banks, company or restaurant, so that they could used it for monetary gift 压岁钱(yāsuì qián) or call 利是(lai see) which are typically given to the unmarried by the married; most of whom are children.. The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and is supposed to ward off evil spirits, and was believed to protect the elderly from sickness and death.
Below are some of my collections of red packets for this Chinese New Year. Some designs are quite nice.
